Humble Service

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity!”

MATTHEW 6:1-2

We are created by God - to be used by God. There is no spiritual work in only displaying your works or in the glory of self - there is no person worthy but Jesus Christ. When we give ourselves fully to him - his spirit lives in us. Let Jesus use your body for his purpose, his spirit, his way. Give your mind completely to Jesus to be made new. In him we are made worthy - but only in him.

Many Christian's can become focused on creating the image of spiritual success. They boast in telling others the proper way to live. Jesus came to redeem you - to save you - to love you. He did not come to condemn the lost - but rather those who believe they are right in their condemnation of others. He spends his time with those that know they have fallen short and need his help.

Jesus has never condemned a single person who has ever sinned in any way and turned their hearts to him in truth. They are with him - he is with them. However, religious leaders often condemn themselves by boasting in their perfection and judging others in falling short of their own personal standard.

God desires the complete life of all his children. He does not want only part of you. One completely devoted life to God is of substantially more value than all those who simply know his name.

“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” James 1:18

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” James 2:18

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2
